2002 Highlander Limited V6 4WD
I know I haven't had this vehicle very long, about 6 days, but have already driven it almost 3,000 kilometres. Bought it for $6500 it has 276,000 clicks on it! Power seat, leather, heated seats, sunroof, JBL sound system, V6, 4WD, the seats are very very comfortable, on par with my Audi A6.

The V6 (3.0) is a great engine, sounds really good, smooth, quiet, I've driven mostly city and have averaged 19.2 miles per gallon, good acceleration too! Handling is pretty exceptional, though it's no match for my brothers Ford Focus, it gets the job done. Sound system is eat, air conditioning is good, I would say if you are looking for a reliable family hauler with decent mileage get a highlander. - fantastic headlights at nighttime!

Cons: gear shifter is annoying, and doesn't seem to like reverse. Build quality (dash and door panels) could be better. Would also like volume controls on dash.

Anyways, good vehicle overall.

2002 Toyota Highlander

All around great vehicle
Owned one for 8 years, never let us down.
Interior noise is reasonable, and seats remained comfortable even after almost 300,000 km. Cabin is is not as lavish as some domestics, but the options are functional and well thought out. Has tons of legroom, and lots of cargo space.
Motor has plenty of power, smooth transmission and all wheel drive which translates to great traction in all conditions. It's actually kind of fun in winter. It drives light and agile.
Fuel economy is reasonable, has good range.
Exterior styling is unassuming, and definitely not fancy, but since the body style stayed the same for so long it helps conceal the vehicles' age.
Paint quality is awesome, and the body definitely resists rust.
Easily the most reliable and predictable vehicle we have ever owned.

2002 Toyota Highlander

Great beginning, terrible ending
I originally purchased this car based on positive word of mouth reviews and generally good feedback from Toyota owners in general (but not for its cutting edge styling or anything like that). In first few years this vehicle drove exceptionally well with little to no mechanical issues, which is exactly what I was expecting. In the last three years, however, pretty much everything under the sun that could have gone wrong with this car has right down to a severe oil sludge issue that I am presently dealing with. With approx 175k km's and an impeccable service and maintenance record, I am truly disappointed that I may need to replace the engine entirely. IMHO, it should have lasted much longer than this. When I was growing up, it was pretty common for cars to run 15-20 yrs without too many issues. After doing a little "after the fact" research online, I was able to find out that this was indeed an issue with many of these vehicles of this particular vintage and that Toyota did indeed deal with this matter very quietly a number of years ago. Unfortunately, I was never contacted or made aware of the issue in a timely enough fashion and am therefore s#!t out of luck (for lack of a better word). Anyway, based on cost estimates from a number of different sources, I am not entirely sure it is worth it to fix this or not.

2002 Toyota Highlander

Trim: V6 4WD

Excellent family vehicle for life in the prairies
Very reliable, comfortable and versatile. Excellent all weather vehicle with the full time 4WD and plenty of power to pass uphill even when fully loaded. Reasonably quiet and very good visibility. Comfortable for long trips for adults and children. Can fit 3 car seats in the back OK and lots of trunk space. Easy to get into and out of, but still has plenty of ground clearance. Would recommend to others and will be buying a newer Highlander to replace it in the future.

Extremely reliable and a great ride.
I purchased this 2002 Highlander with 87K and I now have 230K. I have had no problems of any significance. I do the brakes annually and change the oil every 5K. Just put on my second set of Michelin tires at 200K . I pull a boat trailer in the summer and find it pulls exceptionally well. I use the 4wdr in the winter and have NEVER been stuck or in the ditch.l would buy another one of these in a minute.
