NEW FOR 2016:
- All-new model.
After peddling ready-to-be-customized boxes on wheels, sporty coupes, and city cars, Scion enters 2016 with something completely different: a conventional hatchback.
The Scion iM is based the Toyota Auris, Europe’s Corolla. Its sharp, angular styling is a departure from Scion’s norm, but its modern look and feel should appeal to a broader audience base. A short wheelbase and fully independent rear suspension should also give it the upper hand on a twisting backroad over its domestic cousin. While the iM will replace the boxy xB in the Scion lineup, it’s better to think of it as the successor to the Toyota Matrix.
Powering the iM is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder motor with Toyota’s Valvematic technology – the same motor found under the hood of the Toyota Corolla LE Eco. It is paired to either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission.
As with all other Scion models, the iM is offered in a single configuration. Equipment is generous and includes standard 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, body aero kit, rear spoiler, power windows, power heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, keyless entry, air conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sports seats with cloth upholstery, trip computer with 4.2-inch colour display, dual-zone climate control, seven-inch Pioneer display audio system with six speakers, reverse camera, AM/FM stereo with USB audio input and Bluetooth.
Scion will offer navigation, sound system upgrades, interior ambient lighting and performance oriented mods including a TRD air filter and lowering springs through its accessories line.
