Audi got serious about its electric vehicle intentions in 2019 with the launch of the E-Tron SUV, a vehicle sized to slot into the heart of the mid-size luxury crossover segment.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Audi adds a handful of standard features to the E-Tron’s two trim levels.
Available Trims
Audi sells the E-Tron in Progressiv and Technik trim levels. Both use the same electric powertrain comprising two drive motors and an 86.5-kW battery pack. Audi also makes a sleeker version of this SUV called the E-Tron Sportback, which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Standard Features
New this year to Progressiv trim is an S line exterior appearance package, and a smartphone signal booster for the cabin. Carried over from last year are 20-inch wheels, auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and front seats, leather, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, four-zone A/C, and passive keyless entry.
Among the E-Tron’s high-tech items are a 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation, smartphone interface, digital gauges, a toll transponder, and satellite radio.
Standard safety features include hands-on detection, pre sense front and rear, blind spot monitor, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, emergency assist, and automatic high beams.
Technik trim’s 2022 additions are adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, pre sense 360, and traffic sign recognition. From last year, Technik carries forward power door closers, heated rear seats, front seat ventilation, rear-door sun shades, leather dash trim, Bang & Olufsen audio, top-view cameras, and a head-up display.
Key Options
A Progressiv convenience package adds heated rear seats, top-view cameras, parking sensors, and ventilated front seats. The Progressiv adaptive cruise pack bundles adaptive cruise with active lane assist, intersection assist, pre sense 360, and traffic sign recognition.
In Technik models, you can add a luxury pack of massaging front seats, Valcona/Milano leather upholstery, extended leather trim, and an air quality package.
You can also option in 21- and 22-inch wheels and tires.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s energy consumption estimates for the E-Tron are 3.0/3.0 Le/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
While Audi was one of the first established automakers in the EV SUV segment, the E-Tron faces stiff competition from the Tesla Model X, along with the Jaguar I-Pace and high-end versions of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
